The Wall Street Journal has an interesting piece on Cellphone novels in Japan in case you missed the recent NY Times piece:
According to industrywide data cited by Japan’s largest cellphone operator NTT DoCoMo Inc., sales from mobile-book and comic-book services are expected to more than double, to more than $200 million from about $90 million last year.
Prompted by this post by James Bridle, I downloaded A Tale of Two Cities to my mobile and frankly I’m in love with the idea. I’ve already read a few chapters while dallying around and suspect it will form the basis for my public transport/bored in company reading for days to come!

I prefer to download mp3 broadcasts of programmes I keep missing on the radio – Lyric FM’s quiet quarter, sunday Misc, BBC radio 4 women’s hour, front row, Radio 3 arts programme and listen to them on my mobile when travelling. You can do that while walking and not bump into lamp posts and assorted post boxes while looking at the screen.
I know what you mean! I have to say though, its much easier to walk and read a phone then to walk and read a book!
Still the perils of move-reading shouldn’t be understated!

I think that it depends on how “deep” you want to read. For a large book I don’t think it will go mobile, but just for a quick read, like magazines, mobile reading can succeed, I’ve liked: http://www.etipsmobile.com.
